PE teachers give maths lessons in school crisis

Maths lessons are being taught in some schools by teachers with only a GCSE qualification in the subject because of an acute shortage of mathematicians.

Experts say that there is a shortfall of 5,500 maths teachers for secondary schools in England, forcing some heads to take emergency measures when pupils return next month.
