City learning trust neil dawson

Neil Dawson

I have a broad experience in school governorship serving at nursery, primary and secondary schools. This includes a considerable period at Haywood Academy throughout its many significant changes.

As a local resident I recognise the importance of community support and involvement. I am a Trustee of Ford Green Hall Museum, Bradeley Community Centre, Burslem School of Art and Voluntary Action Staffordshire, which supports community groups and charities.

I have worked as a Laboratory Manager in local industry and different capacities in the voluntary, co-operative sector and the National Health Service.  I have experience as a foster carer for nearly 20 years and also served as an elected City Councillor for 11 years, until 2007. Further experience was achieved at the Police Authority.

Working with other agencies, and Joan Walley MP in Burslem, I have helped to build good links to support Haywood Sixth Form Academy, which will open this year.

I believe in partnership working and am excited about the constructive work taking place between the City Learning Trust and many local organisations.  I am certain that this will increase the opportunities for our enthusiastic students and prepare them for their career choice or university place.

The City Learning Trust approach will be a model that remains local but allows growth and expansion to support a wider network of schools.
